The Three Most Common Holiday Accidents

|

The holiday season is right around the corner and many of us have already started tacking up decorations, putting up lights, and setting up the Christmas tree. While we have all seen our fair share of movies that showcase a variety of holiday-related accidents (think National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation!), the fact is that these incidents can and do happen in real life.

We have listed below the three most common holiday accidents – and suggest how you and your loved ones can avoid them so that everyone can have a safe and happy holiday season.

Falls

One of the most common injuries to happen during Christmas are slip and falls. While falling from a minimal height may not be significant for a young and healthy person, for older individuals or those with specific health issues, they can be tragic. Keep everyone safe by:

  • Ensuring that all electrical cords are secured and are not located in high traffic areas (or are suitably covered if such areas can’t be worked around)
  • Not climbing to the last rung of the ladder to hang the lights outside of your home or making unwise decisions when up on the roof decorating
  • Making sure any spills of drinks from children, intoxicated, or over-excited guests, are quickly mopped up and dried

Drunk Driving

Sadly, far too many people still choose to take to the streets in their own vehicles after a holiday party. If you are on the roads during the holiday season, drive cautiously, particularly on days you know people may be out and about after a holiday get together such as weekends and the actual holidays.

Should you be involved in an accident involving a drunk driver in the greater Las Vegas area, be sure to give our attorneys at Bertoldo Carter Smith & Cullen a call before you make a settlement with your insurance company. You may be entitled to significantly more than you know.

Shopping Malls

Busy, crowded shopping malls are just begging for a disaster to happen. Apart from needing to battle through mobs of shoppers, there are numerous other hazards present such as:

  • Wet floors
  • Broken or ineffective escalators
  • Loose items on the floor
  • “Walk and text” shoppers

The holiday season is a time of giving and forgiveness, but do not let yourself needlessly become a victim because of the negligent actions of someone else.
