Fires Can Start and Spread Anywhere in Las Vegas, NV

Fires start in surprising ways in Las Vegas, NV and can lead to considerable damage and injuries when the smoke and blaze are not easily contained. The circumstances surrounding notable fires in the city over the past several years are just a sample of how quickly these devastating occurrences can take over.

May 29, 2018: Outside Cooking Device Causes an Estimated $650,000 in Damages

According to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue officials, a fire started in the backyard of a home on Logan Court from the use of an outside cooking device that was left unattended, caught fire, and spread to three nearby homes. The fire displaced 12 adults and four children, causing an estimated $650,000 in damage.

When the cooking device caught fire, it spread to palm trees, the home the device was being used behind, and two other houses nearby. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, one of their vehicles – along with several others in the vicinity – was also damaged.

Injuries and property damage could have easily been avoided if the device would have been supervised by the user, but the negligent behavior to leave the device burning unattended created life-changing circumstances for the families living nearby.

June 28, 2018: Las Vegas Garbage Truck Fire Spreads to Nearby Home

A garbage truck servicing a south valley neighborhood was carrying embers that ignited the roof of a home, causing approximately $100,000 in damages. The Clark County Fire Department did not report any physical injuries from the blaze, but the emotional injuries suffered by the homeowners, and structural damage to the home, will carry long-term effects going forward.

The negligence of the garbage carriers reflects a real-time fear that fires within their vehicles can cause more than physical injury to the people and homes they service. The financial restitution involved in making the homeowner whole again requires a keen legal eye to pursue.

Hotel and Resort Fires in Las Vegas, NV Affect All Visitors

While false alarms are not unusual in large cities like Las Vegas, NV, where hotels, resorts, and entertainment venues are teeming with people every day of the year, the sight or smell of smoke, and worse, flames, can incite panic, chaos, and confusion, causing injuries during mass evacuations of these large and densely occupied areas.

June 12, 2018: Two People Hospitalized From Laundry Chute Fire in Las Vegas Strip Hotel

Hotel guests were evacuated from a popular Las Vegas Strip hotel after reports of a popping noise disrupted the afternoon’s enjoyment. Fire officials reported that two people were hospitalized for breathing trouble, and another person was treated at the scene for minor burns caused by a smoke-filled laundry chute fire, as all 37-stories of the hotel were evacuated. While the cause of the fire was not immediately identified, the individuals who were harmed by the blaze will certainly be responsible for their medical care, and future financial losses from taking time away from work.

July 21, 2018: Kitchen Fire Causes Evacuation of Las Vegas Strip Hotel

In a separate accident, a large Las Vegas Strip resort reported a fire to the Clark County Fire Department who responded to a contained fire in one of the room’s kitchens. The result was a mass evacuation of three floors and eventual water damage from the sprinkler system.

The hasty evacuation of people from any home, apartment, or building can lead to commotion from sheer uncertainty. Elevators are off-limits. Alarms are ringing loudly. Fear and anxiety fuel panicked escapes from guests, even when there is no flame in sight.

Mass exits take a toll on the well-being of large crowds and can lead to:

  • Cuts, scrapes, and bruises from crowded movements
  • Falls from moving quickly, or from being pushed by others trying to exit
  • Exhaustion from exiting through stairs
  • Torn muscles, ligaments, and tendons
  • Sprained ankles, knees, and shoulders
  • Fractured or broken bones
  • Trampling and crushing injuries

When a fire occurs, everything from its containment to the evacuation processes is all part of the safety measures that should happen quickly and effectively to avoid injury. These practices are in place to ensure that individuals can escape dangerous conditions without bodily harm. When those procedures do not work, whether through a mechanical malfunction or because of another’s negligence, our clients deserve retribution. At Bertoldo Carter Smith & Cullen, we can help you and your family recover from a fire, holding the responsible party accountable for your injuries.
