Bertoldo Carter Smith & Cullen is Pleased to Announce the Winner of its 3rd Annual College Scholarship Essay Contest Maggie DeFederico, a senior at Bishop Gorman High School, is the winner of Bertoldo Carter Smith & Cullen’s 3rd annual college scholarship essay contest. The essay contest received over 120 well-researched and truly insightful scholarship entries.
Bertoldo Carter Smith & Cullen, a personal injury law firm and a 30-year member of the Southern Nevada Community, is proud to announce that they have partnered with The Public Education Foundation to sponsor this essay contest. As the winner of the essay contest, DeFederico will receive a $2,500 college scholarship. The essay contest started on December 19th and ran through February 18th. Participating in senior high school students were asked to submit a three-page minimum essay on “How does Society benefit from having laws and a legal system?” This generous scholarship was donated with the intention of guiding a high school senior who has an interest in a legal field of study for their education.

We want to instill in students an appreciation for the law and foster a greater understanding of the American judicial system,” said Brett Carter, partner at Bertoldo Carter Smith & Cullen.
DeFederico developed an interest in law this year while taking a class called “We The People” where she studied the Constitution. DeFederico is an outstanding student who has already excelled in her academic career. In her spare time, she loves cheerleading, reading, and spending time with her family. She will be attending the University of Southern California in the fall. Bertoldo Carter Smith & Cullen donated the generous scholarship with the intention of guiding a high school student who has an interest in pursuing a career in the legal field. The firm is proud of DeFederico and is pleased that she is the winner of the contest. The third annual scholarship essay contest proved to be a success and Bertoldo Carter Smith & Cullen are looking forward to continuing their community involvement tradition while supporting students who may one day shine brightly in the legal field.
