Musie Girmay, a senior at Edward W. Clark High School, is the winner of Bertoldo Carter Smith & Cullen’s 6th annual college scholarship essay contest.
The Las Vegas personal injury law firm Bertoldo Carter Smith & Cullen is pleased to announce that Musie Girmay, a senior at Edward W. Clark High School, is the winner of the firm’s 6th annual college scholarship essay contest. As the winner of the essay contest, Girmay received a $3,000 college scholarship.
The essay contest was for participating senior high school students and started on October 10th, 2017 and ran through January 31st, 2018. The topic this year was “Las Vegas was recently the site of one of the worst mass shootings in modern U.S. history. People have expressed concerns over the number and type of guns and equipment the shooter may have legally obtained and used to carry out this despicable act. Others take the position that it is unfair to blame anyone or anything other than the shooter. How do you balance the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms with issues of public safety?
Musie Girmay first developed an interest in in law when he entered high school. He loved taking courses related to economic policy and government. He hasn’t decided where he will be going to college in the fall, but he plans to major in Economics.
Girmay is an outstanding student who has already excelled in his academic career with a 4.8 GPA. In his spare time, he enjoys doing community service related activities, reading, and playing sports. Since entering high school, he has been involved in the National Honor Society, Model U.N., Key Club, Speech and Debate, Future Business Leaders of America, and Delta Epsilon Chi (DECA).
Girmay found out about the essay contest through The Public Education Foundation’s website. He was intrigued by the essay topic, as he felt that it addressed a pressing issue within our society.
Bertoldo Carter Smith & Cullen donated the generous scholarship with the intention of guiding a high school student who has an interest in pursuing a career in the legal field. The firm is proud of Musie and is pleased that he is the winner of the contest.
The sixth annual scholarship essay contest proved once again to be a success with over 250 applications. Bertoldo Carter Smith & Cullen once again looking forward to continuing the tradition of supporting future students.
