Bio

To Kevin King, relationships are important. As a child, his father’s job took the family all over the Midwest, never staying in one place more than two or three years. Again and again, Kevin would walk into a room, be outgoing and authentic, and start making new friends. That skill would later serve him well in his career.

Hard work and preparation also served him well. Throughout high school and college, Kevin worked two or three jobs each summer to pay for school. He earned his B.A. in sociology/criminology from Ohio University, graduating cum laude. Thereafter, he earned his law degree from Oklahoma City University, where he interned with Oklahoma Legal Aid, clerked at a local personal injury firm, was elected student body Vice President, and was active in the Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity.

Kevin was first licensed to practice law in 1997 in Wisconsin. Variety marked his early practice, but no matter whether he was engaged in criminal defense, municipal prosecution, or civil litigation, Kevin quickly developed a taste for the courtroom.

When he came to Nevada, Kevin went straight to court, clerking for the Honorable Dianne Steel. After handling complex domestic relations and personal injury matters for a few years, Kevin took a position at a large insurance defense firm, where he eventually became a partner. There, he defended people and companies in complex tort litigation and learned about the inner workings of insurance companies.

Seeking a more personal connection to his work, Kevin joined Bertoldo, Baker, Carter & Smith in 2016. After all those years of looking at cases from the insurance company’s perspective, he felt he could serve his clients even better on the other side of the aisle. Kevin enjoys the firm’s collaborative spirit and values the way team members work together to develop the best possible strategy for their clients based on their collective experience.

Kevin also regularly gives back to the legal community. As a member of the State Bar of Nevada’s Transition into Practice (“TIP”) program, he frequently mentors new lawyers who are just entering the profession. He also serves as an arbitrator for the Eighth Judicial District Court, helping attorneys and their clients achieve cost-effective resolutions to a variety of disputes.

At home, Kevin enjoys sharing lessons with his teenage son, a new driver, and teaching him to play guitar. He also enjoys sharing his love of “the beautiful game” with his daughter, whom he has coached for many years.
